Jack Peñate

Jack Peñate is a legend.. great song writer (me thinks) and great performer (fo' sho').

Tonight was the third time i had seen him and the second time this week. Brilliant both times (but first, at Banquet Records in k-town, was better - due to sound difficulties in HMV today and Banquet Records also was more 'intimate')

What to listen to:

>"Spit At Stars"
>"Torn On The Platform"
>"Second, Minute And Hour"
>"Got My Favourite"

Wow, this week has been immense for me.. first i finished my GCSEs and we were raving it up on friday and saturday night. Then on sunday, i was taken to see one of the best bands (both live and on record) around, MUSE.)

Muse was immense... really immense. although we were sitting (Club Wembley actually, (padded seats and cup holders were the only actual advantage apart from the placement of the seats)) we had a great view of the red dot that was Matt Belamy.

the stage was huge.. literally spanning from one width of the pitch to the other with massive orbs behind the stage. the stage had several radar/satellite dishes on it.

At 4pm, Shy Child, a duo from New York came on. their brief set (around 35 mins) included their song 'Drop The Phone' and my favourite "Summer". their electronic/indie unfortunately didnt excite the crowd that much and many of the ones with standing tickets, sat down (bastards).

Later, at 5 15 (woo what a time for fans of The Who) the Scottish trio Biffy Clyro came on. They played for 45 mins.

At 6 30, My Chemical Romance braced the stage and their hour set included many of the songs off their latest creation "Welcome To The Black Parade". many of the fans in the inner circle perked up (i reckon many of them just came to see MCR) and sung and 'danced' along to their set. i must admit, i quite enjoyed it (im sorry, truly). Gerard Way thought it necessary to preach to his emo fans (SORRY BUT I HAVE TO CLASSIFY THEM... and come on singing bout cancer and how we are all going to die IS emo) about how 'violence is never the answer' and how 'theres always someone to talk to' etc..

Finally, after an hour of Gerard and his crew sliding around and making their music, 8pm came.
Muse, being no ordinary band, decided to wow the audience (very effectively) by entering the stage by means of coming out the floor in the middle of the pitch (to "Dance Of The Knights" from the ballet, "Romeo and Juliet" (though its probably more famous for the theme to "The Apprentice").
They did this to screams of delight and to fireworks and smoke. Once they had been raised up (daym that reminds me of latin) they walked along the raised walkway to the main stage. The were accompanied, rather surprisingly, by men in yellow radioactive suits and hazard masks who quickly disappeared as the trio walked on stage.

The band opened with their hit "Knights of Cydonia" from their latest creation, "Black Holes And Revelations". they played several songs form Black Holes And Revelations and also played songs from their other 3 ("Showbiz" (1999), "Origin Of Symmretry" (2001) and "Absolution" (2003)).

Dance of the Knights (intro music)
Close Encounters Riff + Knights of Cydonia
Hysteria
Supermassive Black Hole
Map of the Problematique
Forced In
Sing For Absolution
Butterflies & Hurricanes
Hoodoo
Intro + Apocalypsee Please
Feeling Good (Nina Simone cover)
Piano Interlude + Sunburn (piano)
Invincible
Starlight
Blues Jam + Time Is Running Out
New Born + Microphone Fiend riff + Ashamed outro

Encore 1:

Soldiers Poem (acoustic guitar)
Unintended
Blackout
Bliss

Encore 2:

Plug In Baby
Stockholm Syndrome + riffs
Take A Bow

It was a truly brilliant experience. During "Blackout", everyone put their lights on their phones (at Muse's instruction) as the stadium lights were dimmed. it was amazing to see many specks of light in the crowd. Straight after, during "Bliss", two massive balloons were released and attatched to these were acrobats. these acrobats danced through out the song and were pulled back at the end of the first encore.

Muse finished with "Take A Bow" (rather fitting for the moment) and the stage lit up with fireworks and sparks and the stage was covered with smoke.

Wow.. what a gig.

The journey home was nearly as exciting with delays and whole lines not running. Fuck you ken.
oh and hi to the guy who was drunk out his head.. hope your friend jack didn't kill you and hope you got back to Hammersmith ok.

The Arcade Fire - Brixton Accademy 16th March 2007

The Canadian group were supported by an all female Brighton band called Electrelane who create an electronic (as the name suggests) sound that is unique. Their new album "No Shouts, No Calls" is more a list of songs that could stand on their own, "To The East" and "Between The Wolf And The Dog" are just two of these. The incredible Montreal "indie rockers" that are The Arcade Fire played an amazing set (listed below), in which the members switched roles (the drummer played guitar etc..) and left the audience wanting more than the two song encore scheduled. The near ten piece band (which includes a hurdy gurdy and a string section as well as the more traditional rock band instruments) played both songs from their first album "Funeral" and new songs from their recently released album "Neon Bible". Their choice of songs linked well and even included the 1965 Eurovision winner "Poupee de Cire de Son". The lighting was cleverly done as the stage was lined with large neon tubes that glowed red and on the stage were shadow puppetesque boxes showing projections of the neon bible.

"Leg"

Ok, first blog so bare with me. Right so a few weeks ago (11th may) i was playing football with some friend after school when i landed on my right foot. I heard a crack and was like 'SHIIIT' and hobbled off to the nurse who shoved some ice on it. I then went to the hospital - QUEEN MARY'S ROEHAMPTON (which has been done up very nicely) and had an x-ray. The miracle that is modern technology meant that as soon as i had got back from x-ray, the doctor was looking at my x-rays on his computer. He told me that i had fractured my fibula right at the bottom basically in the foot. I had a 'half cast' put on and went home an hour later than i had arrived.
